ABOUT THE PROJECT
● THE BLACK BOX AND A TULIP FOR YOU PROJECT
The BLACK BOX event – the interactive object for seeing about blind – has been introduced itself to the general public since 2015. It is one of the subprojects of integrative project A Tulip For You, which works with visually impaired children via creative education and their incorporation to major communities more than 14 years. Besides visually impaired children there are other minority groups of children involved onto project – mentally handicapped, Roma children and since 2015 also children of Iraqi asylum seekers.
● WHY THE BLACK BOX?
The BLACK BOX event is a sum of long term creative works with visually impaired children and youth. Their successes on various competitions, their capabilities and invention naturally led into necessity to present, how skilled a person without sight can be. Therefore one of project A Tulip For You aims is: „the handicapped teaches healthy, unseeing teaches seeing “– to inform about the world of blind via experience and knowledge, to get these two worlds closer and more sensitive.
● THE BLACK BOX TILL NOW
The BLACK BOX is a signal targeted to those places, where you do not expect any contact with a world of “others”. The first successful presentation of the Black Box event was the International Festival Divadelná Nitra 2015. Since then it works in a public places, shopping centers, institutions, festivals: Digital park, Aupark, Národné osvetové centrum (Bratislava), OC MLYNY (Nitra), at festival POHODA 2018, festival HELPFEST (Devín castle), festival SOLOŠNICA, at the basic and secondary schools and since 2015 yearly at the maternal festival Divadelná Nitra.
● TO EXPERIENCE THE BLACK BOX AND ITS ACCOMPANYING ACTIVITIES
Visitors step into full darkness to experience, what means preparing for example “only” breakfast. They also familiarize with Braill alphabet, aids of blind, walking with white stick. The Flowerbed For Blind or Sensitive Sidewalk, where visitors are testing various herbs by hands or various materials by feet, are a part of strong experience as well. Then visitor can see the extraordinary visual art pieces of visually impaired children – what used to be for any seeing visitor unbelievable experience on the end.
